Funeral Mass celebrated at Holy Name
A Funeral Mass for Paul L. Kaiser, 76, of West Union was celebrated by the Rev. Dale Rausch on Saturday, March 16, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union.
Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, rural West Union.
Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in West Union was in charge of arrangements.
Paul’s death occurred Monday, March 11, 2013.
Paul Lee Kaiser was born Aug. 1, 1936, to Helmer and Evelyn (Ferden) Kaiser in Rolfe.
He graduated from Rolfe High School in 1954 and from Buena Vista College in 1958 with a degree in education. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha with a master’s degree in counseling in 1960 and earned his doctorate degree in education from Nova University in 1981.
Paul spent several years in education at Treynor, where he was a teacher and football coach. He was a guidance counselor at North High School in West Union for five years.
He later took a position at Area One (now Northeast Iowa Community College) in Calmar, where he served in several capacities, including vice president and interim president. His career at Northeast Iowa Community College spanned 25 years.
Paul completed his professional career as an insurance counselor for the Knights of Columbus from 1989 until his retirement.
In addition to being an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, he was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
On Dec. 27, 1961, Paul married Therese McDonald at St. Patrick’s Church in Council Bluffs. To this union four children were born. Over the years Paul loved to follow all of his grandchildren’s activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joey Kaiser; and a brother, Greg Kaiser.
Survivors include Therese, his wife of 51 years, of West Union; four children, Kathie (Chris) Lampe of Bellevue, Marty (Marianne) Kaiser of Rockton, Ill., Peggy (Brent) Ohl of Eldridge, and Joe (Francesca) Kaiser of Ely; and eight grandchildren, Matt Lampe, Sam Lampe, Anna Lampe, Sarah Lampe, Nathan Kaiser, Tom Ohl, Charlie Ohl, and Rachel Kaiser.
