Festive Block Party
returns to West Union

West Union businesses hope to continue building on the popularity of last year’s Block Party celebration in downtown West Union. The 2013 event is scheduled for Thursday and will coincide with the annual Fall Open Houses, which will run through Saturday.
The Block Party debuted last year in celebration of the opening of S. Vine, Elm, and Walnut streets following the completion of that portion of the community’s Green Pilot Streetscape Project.
The 2012 event was hosted by the downtown business owners to show their appreciation to the public, and especially their faithful customers, who displayed patience and flexibility during the Streetscape Project.
Merchants and businesses from throughout West Union are invited to participate in this year’s event.
“We received a number of positive responses following last year’s Block Party, and we are hoping even more merchants from throughout the community and local residents will participate this time,” explained Gary Steinlage of Unionland Feed.
“I am looking forward to the approaching Block Party and Fall Open House,” added newly appointed West Union Chamber director Melissa Fagle. “I invite everyone to not only come downtown, but visit all of the local businesses during both events.
“I encourage everyone to not only enjoy the entertainment and store specials, but also take the time to visit with the business owners during the upcoming open houses,” she continued.
In addition to in-store specials and downtown vendors, the Block Party will once again include sampling of tasty treats such as frozen yogurt, wine, cheese, and much, much more.
Wichita will perform in the Civic Plaza from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the Fayette County Historical Society will provide tours of the historical center.
Meanwhile, the Fall Open Houses will carry on through Saturday, Sept. 21. Participating West Union merchants will continue to offer in-store specials, samples, and refreshments throughout the annual event.
